Cain M | Aegis Treatment Centers
A few months ago, I was suddenly incarcerated. One of my first concerns was whether I would continue receiving my methadone medication. I worried about getting sick and being forced to go through withdrawal. Panic set in.
As soon as I was booked into county jail, I learned there was a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program and that I could continue my medication while working through my case. I received my medication the following day and continued receiving it afterward. Knowing I wouldn’t have to experience the withdrawal I had feared was a huge relief.
Along with my medication, I received weekly individual counseling and attended classes. I now meet weekly with my counselor who has been a great source of support. Her encouragement and positive feedback helped me as I navigated my recovery journey.
My experience with this program has been exceptional. It helped me stay comfortable, continue my treatment, and learn skills to support my recovery. During a frightening and uncertain time, having consistent care and someone to talk to made a real difference.
