If you had told me years ago that one day I’d own a business, have goals for the future, and live a life I was genuinely proud of, I never would have believed you.
When my husband and I first started treatment, we weren’t focused on what life would look like years down the road. We were simply trying to make it through one day at a time. Recovery wasn’t easy, and it definitely wasn’t perfect. We relapsed. We made mistakes. Sometimes we had to start over. But we kept coming back to Aegis Treatment Centers of Ventura.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that recovery doesn’t have to look the way other people think it should. There is still so much stigma surrounding methadone and medication-assisted treatment, but for me, it provided the stability I needed to begin rebuilding my life. It wasn’t a shortcut or a cure, I still had to put in the work every single day. What it gave me was the opportunity to focus on healing instead of spending every day simply trying to survive.
Today, my husband and I are proud business owners. We’ve built careers, accepted responsibilities we never imagined possible, and created a future we once believed was out of reach. We are not the same people who first walked through the doors of Aegis Treatment Centers Ventura all those years ago.
Recovery gave us more than sobriety, it gave us hope, purpose, and the chance to build a life we’re truly proud of. Looking back, every step of the journey was worth it.
