"The staff at Pinnacle were amazing and incredibly supportive. They helped me see that a real, fulfilling life in recovery was possible."

Brandi W. | Newport News, VA

For years, addiction controlled my life. What started as partying in my teens eventually turned into heavy drug use that took everything from me - my family, my home, and my sense of self. I went from having what I thought was the “dream life” to living on the streets, isolated from everyone who loved me. I truly believed I would die that way.

Everything changed when my son asked if I would go to treatment if he arranged it. I was exhausted and out of options, so I said yes. The early days of recovery were incredibly difficult, but they opened the door to something I never thought was possible.

Through treatment, I was introduced to Pinnacle, and the support I found there made a lasting impact on my recovery. The staff truly cared and created an environment where I felt encouraged to keep going, even when I was unsure of myself. I remember hearing Ms. Paula speaking in the classroom while I was in orientation with the doctor. At first, I thought, “There’s no way I can handle that.” But ironically, she became the person who inspired me to stay. She had something I wanted, confidence, passion, and a way of living that felt real. I didn’t talk much while I was there. Mostly, I listened.

“The staff at Pinnacle were amazing and incredibly supportive. They helped me see that a real, fulfilling life in recovery was possible.”

After completing treatment and continuing my recovery journey, I found support through meetings, sober living, and the recovery community. Along the way I built a new life, one I never imagined I could have. Today I work full-time, have been promoted twice, and am working toward becoming a store manager. I have the support of my children, the joy of being a grandmother, and a marriage built on recovery and mutual support.

Most importantly, today I live with gratitude. Just for today, I have no desire to go back to the life I once lived because today is all I have.
