"My name is Jessica and my clean date is July 4th 2024, but my journey to recovery started on May 17, 2024."

Jessica S. | Pinnacle Treatment Services of Newport News

That day, I was shot in the chest in the city of Newport News Virginia, the same day as my only child's birthday. After I was released from the hospital, I continued to use. I was walking around the city with an open bullet wound in my body, spraying myself with lysol bleach spray to keep my wound from getting infected while I continued to use.

It was not until months later, on July 3rd, that I began to feel like death was chasing me, and if I didn't get off the street that night, I wouldn't make to see morning. So I committed a crime, and stood to wait for the police to come take me to jail.

The staff at Pinnacle were great. The medical team really got me together and helped me with my mental health. I met a lady there that helped change my life and continues to still support me to this day.

They made sure I had clothes, as all I had were the clothes I was arrested in. They made sure I had soap, deodorant, and more.

The house was beautiful and they brought us groceries. After living on the streets for so long, I forgot what it was like to live in a house, have regular meals, clean clothes, and a bed to sleep in for that matter. Needless to say, I was thankful.

The staff at Pinnacle were great. The medical team really got me together and helped me with my mental health. I met a lady there that helped change my life and continues to still support me to this day. Her name is Paula Clark, and she began to show me that even though I thought about using, I didn't have to and I keep that in mind everyday since, and now I have attained over 16 months substance free. To her I will forever be grateful.

I left pinnacle on September 25th, 2024 and went to a step down recovery house in which I currently reside. I attend AA and NA on a daily basis. I am also in college studying to be a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor!

This is my story, and recovery is possible.
